Holi Special: Spicy Achari Paneer Recipe

Getting ready with the Holi menu? Let us add another exotic dish to your list. Achari paneer is a popular recipe which you must try on this festive season. Achari paneer literally means pickled paneer. It is called so because the gravy is prepared using the pickle masala.

Achari paneer is a recipe which is full of robust flavours. It has spicy and tangy taste which makes your taste-buds go crazy for more of the delicious dish. Generally a simple mango pickle is preferred for the recipe. But you may experiment with any pickle of your choice.

Serves: 3
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • Paneer- 500gms
  • Capsicum- 1 (thinly sliced)
  • Onion- 1 (diced)
  • Green chillies- 2
  • Garlic- 5-6 cloves
  • Ginger- 1 medium piece
  • Tomatoes- 2 (diced)
  • Amchoor (dry mango) powder- 1tsp
  • Cumin powder- 1tsp
  • Coriander powder- 1tsp
  • Turmeric powder- 1tsp
  • Garam masala powder- ½ tsp
  • Red chilli powder- ½ tsp
  • Kalonji (onion seeds)- 1tsp
  • Mustard seeds- ½ tsp
  • Bay leaf- 1
  • Salt- as per taste
  • Pickle masala- 1tbsp (any pickle of your choice)
  • Oil- 1tbsp
  • Coriander leaves- 2tbsp (chopped)

Procedure

1. Grind the onions, tomatoes, green chillies, garlic and ginger together in a mixer into a thick paste. Keep it aside.
2. Heat oil in a pan and add kalonji, mustard seeds, bay leaf. Fry for a few seconds.
3. Add the sliced capsicum and fry for minute.
4. Then add the onion paste and saute on medium heat for 5-6 minutes.
5. Now one by one add the turmeric powder, red chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, amchoor powder, garam masala powder and cook for 3-4 minutes.
6. Now add the pickle masala. Make sure you do not put the pieces of the pickle. Saute for 2-3 minutes.
7. Add the paneer and salt. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
8. Then add a little water, cover and cook on low heat for 5 minutes.
9. When the paneer is completely cooked, remove the cover, switch off the flame and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

The tangy and spicy Achari paneer is ready to be served. Relish this delicious dish with rotis.
