Aromatic Lasooni Dal Tadka Recipe

Dal recipes are usually considered mundane in every Indian household. But however ordinary they may be, dal recipes are also necessary. However, you can always give a special twist to your common dal recipe to make them fit for a special feast. Lasooni dal tadka recipe is one such dish. It is actually a very simple dish made of toor dal.

Lasooni dal tadka recipe is special because it is flavoured mainly with garlic. However, in the name lasooni dal tadka recipe, you also have the term 'tadka'. In Hindi, 'tadka' means a singeing seasoning. So the lasooni dal tadka recipe is completed only after a dose of very spicy seasoning. The main ingredient of this dish is toor dal. But you can also try mixing a little urad dal with it to improve the consistency of this dal recipe.

Ingredients

  • Toor dal- 1 cup
  • Urad dal- 2tbsp
  • Turmeric- 1/2 tsp
  • Garlic- 10 pods (minced)
  • Tomato- 1 (chopped)
  • Green chillies- 2 (chopped)
  • Hing or asafoetida- 1 pinch
  • Dry red chillies- 4
  • Red chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds- 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves- 2 stalks (chopped)
  • Ghee- 2tbsp
  • Salt- as per taste

Procedure

  1. Wash the two dals together and pour in a pressure cooker. Add 3 cups of water. Add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric and salt.
  2. Pressure cook the dal for 10 minutes on a low flame. After the whistle blows off twice, turn off the flame.
  3. Don't open the lid of the pressure cooker until all the steam slows out.
  4. Meanwhile, melt the ghee in a deep bottomed pan. Season it with hing first. Then add red chillies and cumin seeds.
  5. After 30 seconds add red chilli powder, garlic and green chillies.
  6. Stir the seasoning so that it doesn't get burnt.
  7. After 20 seconds, pour the boiled dal into the pan and stir it slowly. Now allow the dal to simmer for 2 to 3 minutes on a low flame.
  8. You can garnish the dal with chopped coriander leaves.

It is simple enough to try the dal lassoni tadka recipe at home. Serve it with hot rotis or jeera rice.
