Ladies Finger Pulav: Lunch Recipe

This afternoon, one of the best and most favourite vegetables can be put to test to make a different variety of rice. Okra or ladies finger can now be used to make a delicious rice pulav recipe for lunch.

The one disadvantage of okra or ladies finger is that this vegetable is sticky in nature, therefore a lot of people restrict from making it. You need to know the art of cooking lady finger. Using the right amount of oil is very important to remove the sticky texture. Ladies finger on the whole is a tasty vegetable if you use the correct spice. Here, we have an easy lunch recipe for you to try out, the ladies finger rice pulav.

Ladies Finger Pulav: Lunch Recipe

Ladies finger is good for ones health and it is especially good for those who are suffering from diabetes and heart diseases. One key aspect you should keep in mind when you add this vegetable to any dish is to first fry the ladies fingers in a little oil until it turns crispy.

Serves - 3
Preparation Time - 30 minutes
Cooking Time - 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • Tomato - 4 nos (chopped)
  • Okra/ladies finger- ½ kg (sliced vertically)
  • Onion - 2 (medium chopped)
  • Rice - 2 cups
  • Ginger garlic paste - 2tbsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tbsp
  • Garam Masala Powder - 1tbsp
  • Chilly Powder - 2tbsp
  • Coriander Powder - 2tbsp
  • Salt - to taste

Method

  1. First you need to cook the rice separately in a pressure cooker. Keep aside when done.
  2. Now cut the ladies finger into vertical strips and fry it in a pan with little oil. Fry the ladies finger till its turns crispy and golden brown in colour.
  3. In another pan, saute the onions till it becomes golden brown in colour.
  4. Add in the ginger garlic paste and mix.
  5. Now add in the tomatoes. Fry the ingredients till all the liquid from the tomato has evaporated.
  6. To the above mixture, add in the turmeric powder, chilly powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder and salt to taste.
  7. Let this mixture cook on a medium flame, till you see the oil oozing from the mixture.
  8. Now toss the mixture into the cooked rice. Make sure that the rice is thoroughly coated with the masala mixture.
  9. Add the fried ladies finger and evenly distribute it throughout the rice.
  10. Now mix the contents together on a low flame. Switch off the flame after 10-20 seconds.

Your ladies finger pulav is now ready to eat. You can garnish the ladies finger pulav with chopped cilantro to enhance the taste.
