Janmashtami is only a few hours away. People are already gearing up for the celebrations. The birth of Lord Krishna brings along joy, peace and a festive mood among the people. A very important part of this celebration is fasting. Hindus are supposed to fast from midnight till the next day in the honour of the Lord.
After the fast, the feast begins. This feast consists of vegetarian food devoid of onions and garlic. Since onions and garlic are considered non vegetarian spices in Hinduism, the food that is consumed after the fast is prepared without these ingredients. Vrat Special Aloo Sabzi

Panchmel Dal

However, the main flavour of Panchmel dal comes from the mixture of 5 dals and not the spices.
