Uddina Vada- South Indian Recipe

Uddina Vada is an authentic and traditional South Indian recipe which usually acts like a side dish to the idli. It is one of the most common South Indian breakfast and is equally popular not just in South India but all over India. Uddina, meaning black gram flour is a common used dal or flour.

As said preparing uddina vada is very easy. It not only saves time but also satisfies your hunger completely. The idly and sambar make a heavenly combination with these crispy vadas. At the same time uddina vada fetches more votes than idli as it not only completes the breakfast but is equally tasty. Chillies, pepper, coconut and curry leaves goes in the making of Uddina vada.

Uddina Vada- South Indian Recipe

Serves: 4
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients
Urad dal- 1 cup
Pepper- 2tsp
Ginger- 1tsp
Curry leaves- 5 to 10 leaves
Chillies- 3
Oil- 2tbsp
Salt- ½ tbsp

Procedure
1. Soak the urad dal in 2 cups of water overnight.
2. Grind the black pepper and keep it aside.
3. Chop the ginger and chillies into very small pieces and keep it aside.
4. Drain the water from the soaked urad dal.
5. Grind the soaked urad dal with little water to keep it thick.
6. Add pepper, ginger and salt to this mixture.
7. Heat oil in a pan and pat the batter on an oiled plastic sheet, make a hole like donut.
8. Slip this into hot oil and fry till it is golden brown.
9. Remove from the pan. Remove excess oil by patting it on a tissue paper.

Your uddina vada is ready to relish. You can have it with coconut chutney and a hot cup of coffee.
