Methi Idli Recipe For Breakfast

Have you heard of methi idlis before? In the south of Karnataka, these methi idlis are very famous and loved by children of all age group. They are not just delicious but also a feast to the eyes. Methi idlis are a beautiful green colour and are indeed a delight when it is on your plate.

Methi idlis are healthy too as it contains a number of vitamins, which are good for the body. Methi helps to provide your body with energy so that you can have a healthy start to the day. If you are tired of making the same old boring white rice idlis, it is time you try your hand at something new.

 Methi Idli Recipe For Breakfast

Serves: 4
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • Rice - 1 Cup
  • Coconut - 1 cup (grated)
  • Methi - 1 tsp
  • Yogurt - 4 tbsp
  • Jaggery - 3 tbsp
  • Salt to taste


Procedure

  1. You first need to soak the rice in a bowl of water for about 6 hours. It is best to soak the rice overnight and then blend it the next day.
  2. In another bowl, drop in the curd and the methi seeds. Mix both of these ingredients together using a spatula. After mixing the ingredients well with a flat spoon, store the contents for the same amount of time. (6 hours)
  3. After the time period, take the grated coconut and the soaked methi seeds, blend it into a paste using the mixer. When the paste is done, keep it aside in a clean and dry bowl.
  4. Now, take the soaked rice and blend it in the mixer. Make a coarse paste out of the rice and to this add in the coconut paste. Mix both the ingredients well using a flat spoon.
  5. To the ingredients, add in the jaggery.
  6. Beat the batter well so that it becomes thin in nature. When the batter is ready, ferment it overnight.
  7. The next day, add in the salt to the idli batter. Now pour in the contents into the mould.
  8. Steam the methi idlis in the idli steamer and wait for about 10 minutes to cook. When the pressure is released from the steamer, open the cooker and remove the idlis gently using a spoon.

Your methi idlis is now ready to eat. One of the ways in which you can enjoy methi idlis is alongside coconut chutney or garlic chutney. The latter is more preferred as it helps to enhance the taste of the methi idlis.
