Healthy Breakfast: Palak Thepla Recipe

Mornings are usually the busiest time of our day. Therefore it's quite likely that most of us do not pay much attention to what we are eating. But having a healthy breakfast in the morning is extremely important for your body to function properly. By a healthy breakfast we mean food which is filling, low in fat and is good for digestion.

To fulfill all these requirements of a healthy breakfast, today we have the delicious palak thepla recipe for you. Thepla is a Gujarati dish. It is very similar to the North Indian paratha but the dough of the thepla is kneaded with spices which gives it a fantastic flavour which is sure to make you drool.

Healthy Breakfast: Palak Thepla Recipe

Not to forget the healthy breakfast part, this Thepla recipe is prepared using wheat flour and spinach which makes it laden with fibre and many other important minerals.

Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • Wheat flour- 2 cups
  • Palak (spinach)- 1 cup (finely chopped)
  • Salt- as per taste
  • Cumin seeds- 1tsp
  • Ajwain (carrom seeds)- ½ tsp
  • Green chillies- 2 (finely chopped)
  • Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
  • Curd- 3tbsp
  • Oil- 1tbsp
  • Oil- for frying

Procedure

  1. Mix the wheat flour, spinach, cumin seeds, ajwain, curd, salt, turmeric powder, chopped green chillies, one tablespoon of oil together in a mixing bowl.
  2. Knead a semi-soft dough out of the mixture. Add a little water if needed while kneading.
  3. Cover and keep the dough aside for 10 minutes.
  4. After 10 minutes, make 6-7 lemon sized balls out of the dough.
  5. Roll the balls into the size of a chapati.
  6. Heat a tawa and place the thepla on it.
  7. Apply a little oil on both sides of the thepla and fry it on medium flame till it turns golden brown on each side.
  8. Once it is done, transfer the thepla to a serving plate.
  9. Make more theplas out of the remaining dough, following the same procedure.
Your healthy breakfast palak thepla is ready to eat. You can enjoy this dish with the curry of your choice or curd.
