Healthy Aloo Poha Recipe For Breakfast

Poha is one of the best things to eat at any time of the day. You can have it for breakfast, snack or even carry it in your lunchbox. Poha is especially a good option for all those who are trying to lose weight. To make it all the more healthy, you can use brown rice poha instead of the white one.

Poha is a traditional breakfast of most Indian households. The flattened rice is cooked with a variety of ingredients to make it taste delicious.
Today, we have the variety of poha which is prepared with potatoes. It is known as the aloo poha or batata poha. This special breakfast recipe hails from Maharashtra and tastes extremely good.

Healthy Aloo Poha Recipe For Breakfast

To add to the taste, a tinge of lemon juice does the wonder. Moreover, it hardly takes time to cook aloo poha and that is what you need in the morning -- a quick and healthy breakfast recipe.

Cooking time: 10 minutes

All you need

  • Poha (flattened rice)- 2 cups
  • Aloo (potatoes)- 2 (chopped)
  • Onion- 1 (chopped)
  • Ginger paste- 1/2 tsp
  • Green chilli paste- 1tsp
  • Sugar- 1tsp
  • Salt- as per taste
  • Lemon juice- 1tbsp
  • Mustard seeds- 1tsp
  • Hing (asafoetida)- a pinch
  • Coriander leaves- 2tbsp (chopped)
  • Oil- 1tbsp

Procedure
1. Wash the poha with water thoroughly and drain the excess water.
2. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and hing to it.
3. As the seeds start to splutter, add the onions and fry for 3-4 minutes on medium flame.
4. Then add the ginger and green chilli paste. Cook for a few minutes.
5. Now add in the potatoes and fry for 4-5 minutes on medium flame.
6. Add the washed poha, salt, lemon juice and sugar. Mix well.
7. Cook for another 3-4 minutes till the potatoes are cooked well.
8. Sprinkle the coriander leaves and switch off the flame.

Aloo poha is ready to be served. A perfect breakfast recipe for those who want to eat healthy.

Nutrition Facts
Here, we have used very little oil to cook the poha which cuts down the fat. Aloo poha has zero percentage of cholesterol and only 1 percent of saturated fats. This breakfast is rich in carbs which is beneficial for your health. You can cut down the fats all the more if you use brown rice poha for the preparation.

Tip
Add fried peanuts to the preparation to make it more interesting.
