Crispy Spinach Kachori: Breakfast Recipe

Spinach for breakfast may sound a little strange but once you try this delicious breakfast recipe of crispy spinach kachori, you definitely wouldn't stop at just one. Kachori is a popular snack item from North-India which is a simple deep-fried Indian bread. However in this recipe we are adding a healthy twist of spinach to this mouthwatering snack.

Preparing crispy spinach kachori is not much of a hassle. It doesn't even require too many ingredients. The wheat bread is made into a dough with the spinach mixture and then deep fried. You can easily prepare these crispy spinach kachoris for breakfast and start the day with this iron-rich healthy breakfast recipe.

Crispy Spinach Kachori: Breakfast Recipe

Serves: 3-4

Preparation time: 20 minutes

Cooking time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • Spinach- 1 bunch
  • Whole wheat flour- 2 cups
  • Ginger- 1tsp (grated)
  • Ajwain (carom seeds)- 1tsp
  • Red chilli powder- 1tsp
  • Salt- as per taste
  • Oil- for deep frying
  • Water- 2 cups

Procedure

  1. Clean and wash the spinach leaves properly. Heat a cup of water and blanch the leaves for about 5 minutes on a low flame.
  2. Once done, take the leaves out from the water and make a fine paste in the mixer.
  3. Take wheat flour in a wide bowl. Add ginger, carom seeds, salt, red chilli powder and the pureed spinach.
  4. Mix well and prepare a semi-hard dough. Add water if needed.
  5. Make small round balls out of the dough and keep aside for 5 minutes.
  6. Heat oil in a deep frying pan to fry the kachoris.
  7. Now flatten the balls of the dough in between your palms and then roll them out into small flat breads.
  8. Deep fry these kachoris in the oil for about 2-3 minutes on both sides on a low flame.
  9. Drain the extra oil on paper towel and follow the same procedure to make more kachoris.

Crispy spinach kachoris are ready to be served. Serve these kachoris with your choice of chutney.
