Thambittu For Mangal Gowri Vrat

As the shravana masa has started, the festive season starts. After bheemana amavasye, mangal gowri is the next festival that is celebrated in the shravana masa. This pooja is performed by the married women for four weeks on every Tuesdays.

The mangala gowri festival starts tomorrow i.e 18.08.15 tuesday. The vrat gets completed on the forth tuesday or some times on the fifth tuesday. Those who can not perform the vrat on any tuesdays can perform it on friday of the same week.

One of the important dishes for the mangala gowri vrat is ' tambittu.' This is the main dish that is kept for the nevedya (that are kept as an offering for god).

So, today we shall treach you on how to make tambittu.

Thambittu For Mangal Gowri Vrat

Serves: 4
Preperation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 10 min

Ingredients:

  • Wheat floor - 1 cup
  • Jagerry - 1 cup ( smashed)
  • Ghee - 3/4 cup
  • Water

Procedure:

  1. In a pan, put 2 tbsp of ghee. After it is heated add one cup of wheat flour.
  2. Fry the wheat flour until it turns red.
  3. In another pan add 1 1/2 cup of water, after it boils add jaggery.
  4. Once the jaggery melts allow it to cool. Then filter the jaggery water.
  5. Now,add the jaggery water in a pan and then add the fried wheat flour.
  6. Stir it well, make sure no limps are formed.
  7. Stir until the mixture becomes a thick dough.
  8. Keep it aside for 5 minutes.
  9. Now, apply ghee to your hands and and make small round balls out of the dough.
  10. For mangala gowri vrat, 32 tambittu are made as an offering.
