Methi Muthia: Evening Snacks Recipe

Methi Muthia is one delectable evening snack that is easy to make and digest. Muthia is a very famous Gujarati delicacy. The traditional Gujarati food is generally vegetarian and has a high nutritional value. Gujarati cuisine has so much to offer and each dish has an absolutely different cooking style. Many Gujarati dishes are distinctively sweet, salty, and spicy at the same time. There is one thing that is very special about Gujarati food; they use a combination of different spices and flavours to cook their meals. Gujarati cuisine differs from season to season depending on the availability of vegetables. And one such seasonal snack is Methi Muthia. Methi muthia is a combination of chillies or peppers with wheat, Bengal gram flour and methi (fenugreek). It makes a perfect evening snack. You can also relish the aromatic methi muthia as a starter or side dish.

Fenugreek( methi) is a herb that has been used since centuries for cooking. Methi leaves that is the key ingredient of Methi Muthia is rich in vitamin A, iron and calcium and has many health benefits. So having methi muthia as an evening snack is really a healthy option. It is simple to make and tastes really good.

Baked Methi Muthia
Serves: 4
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Baking time: 8 minutes

Ingredients

  • Fenugreek leaves- 1 cup(chopped)
  • Whole wheat flour- 1/3 cup
  • Bengal gram flour- 1/3 cup
  • Ginger-garlic paste- ½tsp
  • Turmeric powder- ¼ tsp
  • Garam masala- ¼tsp
  • Pepper- ¼tsp
  • Sugar- 1tsp
  • Lemon juice- 1tsp
  • Oil- 1tsp
  • Salt- to taste

Procedure

  • Mix fenugreek leaves, whole wheat flour, Bengal gram flour, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, garam masala, sugar, pepper, lemon juice, salt in a bowl and knead into a soft dough using a little water.
  • Keep the dough aside for about 5 minutes.
  • Now make 12-14 small oval size balls.
  • Preheat the oven at 200°C (400°F).
  • Now, apply a little bit of oil with a brush on a pre-heated tray and place small oval size balls on it.
  • Bake it in an oven for almost 7-8 minutes.

The Methi Muthia is now ready to serve hot with tomato sauce or chutney.
