Indian Salmon Curry With Vegetables

Salmon is not strictly speaking an Indian fish. We are more used to bombil, rohu or pomfret. But Indians are good at adapting foods and flavours from other cultures. That is why there is something called an Indian salmon curry for the global Indian. This Indian salmon curry is spicy, tangy and aromatic.

The Indian salmon curry is cooked with lots of spices. The typically Indian spices like garam masala, hing and kalounji, give this fish curry a very authentic taste. The salmon is cooked with many vegetables in this curry. The Indian salmon curry can be cooked with all the fresh summer vegetables like squash, pumpkin and drumsticks.

Indian Salmon curry

Serves: 2
Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • Salmon- 4 pieces
  • Kalounji or onion seeds- 1/2 tsp
  • Green chillies- 2 (slit)
  • Hing or asafoetida- 1 pinch
  • Curry leaves- 5
  • Pumpkin- 100 grams (chopped)
  • Squash- 100 grams (chopped)
  • Flat beans- 5 (cut into medium pieces)
  • Tomato- 1 (chopped)
  • Red chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin powder- 1tsp
  • Coriander powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala- 1/2 tsp
  • Salt- as per taste
  • Oil- 2tbsp

Procedure

  1. Heat oil in a deep bottomed pan. When the oil is hot, add the salmon pieces. Saute the fish on both sides for 4-5 minutes.
  2. Strain the fish from the pan and keep it aside.
  3. Season the left over oil in the pan with hing, kaloungi, curry leaves and green chillies.
  4. After 1 minute, add the vegetables namely, pumkin, squash and beans. Stir well and cook for 3-4 minutes on a low flame.
  5. Now add all the spices like red chilli powder, cumin and coriander powder. Also add 2 cups of water.
  6. Cover and cook on a low flame for 5 minutes. Then add the sauteed fish. Cover and cook again for 5 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle some garam masala powder and freshly chopped coriander leaves.

Your Indian salmon curry is ready. You can serve it with rice or mashed potatoes.
