Dhaba Style: Bommidala Pulusu Recipe

This yummy bommidala curry is a must make especially if you are in love with fish. The spices involved in this recipe is one of a kind. It is the tamarind juice which adds the special flavour to the fish gravy recipe.

On the other hand, it is best to consume this delicious bommidala pulusu with either plain white rice, coconut rice or even paratha. However, this fish recipe goes well with rice, so allow it to be your first option.

All You Need

  • Bommidala - ½ kg
  • Tamarind - 2 pieces (soaked in water)
  • Fenugreek Seeds - 2tsp
  • Cumin Seeds- 1 tsp
  • Green Chilli- 3 (sliced)
  • Tomato- 2 (chopped)
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
  • Onion - 2 (chopped finely)
  • Masala Powder (combo of chilli powder, garlic, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, fenugreek) - 2 tbsp
  • Curry Leaves - 2
  • Chilli Powder - 1 tbsp
  • Coriander Leaves - 1 sprig (chopped)
  • Salt To Taste
  • Oil - 3 tbsp

Procedure

  1. In a pan. Heat oil, fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds, cumin seeds and green chilli. Allow them to fry till the ingredients splutter. Now add in the chopped onion to the pan and fry well.
  2. Now add in the chopped tomatoes to the pan and fry.
  3. After 5 minutes of the vegetables cooking on medium flame, add the turmeric powder, chilli powder and the masala powder too.
  4. Now allow these ingredients to cook well over a low flame.
  5. Now add the salt to taste and give it a final stir.
  6. After 5 minutes add in the washed fish to the pan and allow the gravy in the pan to cover the fish entirely.
  7. Now add in the tamarind juice to the pan and allow it to cook for at least 15 minutes.
  8. When done, top it with curry leaves and coriander leaves.

Nutrition Tip
Any form of fish is good for health. This particular fish is rich in iron which in turn helps to build on the keeping the immunity strong.

Tip
The one good thing about this fish curry is there is no need to marinate the fish before dropping it into the curry.
