Tandoori Chicken: Microwave Recipe

Tandoori chicken is a famous dish from the northern part of India. The procedure of making this spicy chicken recipe is retained in its name; tandoor is earthen oven in which the meat is roasted directly on coal fire that gives it its characteristically mildly burnt smell. So how will you manage to cook tandoori chicken at home? You can do this with the help of an easy Indian microwave recipe. Keeping up with modern conventions and restrictions of cooking in a modern kitchen, we now have a microwave recipe for this Indian traditional dish.

Tandoori chicken is a recipe that does not require exotic ingredients or loads of preparation time. It is in that way a pretty basic spicy chicken recipe. What it requires is skill, especially when you make it as an Indian microwave recipe. To duplicate that original taste of this typical Indian food is the skill involved.

Ingredients For Tandoori Chicken:

1. Skinned Chicken legs: 4-5 (can take the large pieces with thighs attached)
2. Curd: 100 grams
3. Ginger garlic paste: 2 tablespoons
4. Red chilli powder: 2 tablespoons
5. Cumin and Coriander seeds (ground): 1 tablespoon
6. Tandoori masala: 2 tablespoons
7. Garam masala (pepper, cloves, cardamon, cinnamon and star anise): 1 teaspoon
8. Lemon juice: 2 tablespoons
9. Cooking sherry (optional)
10. Oil: 2 tablespoons
11. Salt as per taste

Procedure For Making Tandoori Chicken:

  • You need to prepare the marinade first. Beat the curd to flatten it and add the powdered spices to it and mix.
  • Grind coriander and cumin seeds in the blender with a little water and add the resulting paste to the marinade along with ginger garlic paste.
  • Add salt and lemon juice to it along with half a tablespoon of oil and your marinade is ready.
  • Now make deep incisions into chicken pieces so that the flavour of the spices enter the flesh. Marinate the chicken with the paste you have prepared and leave it overnight in the fridge.
  • Preheat the microwave oven to 350 degrees the next day and meanwhile brush some oil on the chicken pieces.
  • Place the marinated chicken pieces in a microwavable dish and put them on the higher rack of the microwave. Switch on the grill and cook for 18-20 minutes on one side.
  • Turn it around after draining the oil and cook for another 10 minutes. Cook it on the lower rack of the oven for the final 5 minutes for a finishing touch of crispness.
  • In the end you can burn some sherry in a pan and pour it over the chicken for that burnt smell.

Serve Tandoori chicken hot with onion rings and freshly chopped coriander leaves.
