WIFW'15: Chaya Mehrotra's Spirited Style
Day 3 of WIFW 2015 opened with a confusion on the ramp. Models were randomly walking up and down the ramp as if they were out for a stroll! What on earth is happening in Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2015 Spring Summer today? When the confusion cleared and we started seeing the models for Chaya Mehrotra's WIFW 2015 collection walk down the ramp in order, we understood why the beginning was so strange.
Each of the models for Chaya Mehrotra's collection was dressed as a particular character that we encounter in Indian life. First, there was a typical school girl with a collared shirt and a pleated yellow skirt. She even wore schoolgirl glasses and carried a backpack. Then, there was a hermit wearing a simple kurta and and dhoti. He also wore the sacred beads around his neck.
After this, we encounter the typical 'tapori' from the streets of India. The model wore a shirt with the top buttons open and even draped a 'gamcha' around his neck. He came onto the ramp chewing pan and wearing shades. Finally, the showstopper was a Bengali bride who carried a Bengali sindoor dibba in her hands. Her outfit was yellow and had white leaf patterns on it.
There is no continuity in this collection because each of the characters portrayed by the models was different. Their styling and aesthetics were also totally varied. However, each of the characters we saw on the ramp was real and alive. This is definitely one of the best choreographed fashion shows we have seen so far.
