Lisa Haydon: Indo-French Bride At ICW 2014

Day 3 of ICW 2014 began with a French twirl. When the ramp of India Couture Week 2014 was revealed to the audience, we were quite stunned to see that it was the settings of a street from Paris. There was a French cafe in the background and artists sitting around sketching the models. Monisha Jaising's collection for the ICW 2014 was inspired by the 18th century French Rococo style. And Lisa Haydon was her Indo-French bride.

The collection was titled 'World Bride' and there could not have been a more apt celebrity showstopper for this collection. Monisha must have seen the 'French connection' from the movie 'Queen' that is still fresh in our minds. In the movie 'Queen', Lisa plays the role of a French girl of Indian origin. Lisa Haydon's ICW 2014 avatar was a perfect epilogue to her role.

ICW 2014: MONISHA JAISING'S 'WORLD BRIDE'

As the celebrity showstopper, she was dressed in a fit and flare black leather lehenga skirt that had exquisite golden embroidery. The top was not a conventional choli but white collared shirt that was tied up to the waist. The pretty French braid made her look like the perfect Francois mademoiselle. But the red Punjabi churas and bunches of gold kaliyaras harked back to her Indian origin.

It takes pure creative genius to design a cross-over bridal look like this. Here is a step-by-step look at Lisa Haydon's ICW 2014 ensemble.

The Indo-French Look

The Indo-French Look

Leather is a much preferred fabric for the French. So making the fit and flare lehenga skirt out of leather made sense. Again, black and white are colours that are most popular in Europe. But the golden embroidery, churas and kaliyaras stress the bride's Indian origin.

The black leather lehenga skirt is the single most amazing feature of this look. Who could have imagined that leather could look so gorgeous with golden embroidery!

White Shirt

The white shirt with Chinese collar is another typically French element of the look. But using a tie up shirt instead of a crop top (that has become really boring) was a novel gesture.

French Braid

Lisa Haydon's hair was done up in a pretty French braid like the rest of the models. This French braid obviously suited the Indo-French bride really well.

Churas & Kaliyaras

The red and white churas and golden kaliyaras surprisingly looked splendid with the lehenga skirt and white tie up shirt. It was a complete mismatch and yet it looked completely natural.

Deep Plum Lips

The dark plum coloured lip stick looked really glamorous on Lisa. Her dusky complexion was fired up with this colour.
