IIJW 2013 Day 1: Mugdha Godse Walks For Apala
The Day 1 Of IIJW 2013 was totally star-studded. After Sonam Kapoor inaugurated the Day 1 of IIJW 2013, several collections were showcased on the ramp. Of the notable designers, Sumit Sawhney presented his collection titled 'Carved Incarnations' and brand Apala at IIJW. The theme of this collection seemed to be ornate gold jewellery. The kind of jewellery that we saw on the ramp could be traced back to the apsaras or heavenly dancers.
The showstopper for Apala at IIJW 2013 was Mugdha Godse. She wore a tube choli and a flare dour lehenga. This red outfit was complimented by a gold collar necklace. The gold had a rustic look and the design was really ornate. Mugdha Godse was carrying two lotuses in her hand as she walked on the ramp of India Jewellery Fashion Week 2013.
The rest of the collection from Apala at IIJW Day 1 was equally mystique and rustic. The golden jewellery had a touch of antique to it. The designs seemed to be borrowed from ancient Indian civilisation. The focus was on squares, rectangles and jagged shapes instead of rounded floral ones. We also saw a series of interesting back jewellery from Apala at IIJW Day 1.
Here are some snapshots from Sumit Sawhney's collection from Day 1 of IIJW 2013.
Chunky Silver Jewellery
Although a majority of designs were in gold, we saw new glimpses of rustic silver jewellery on Day 1 of IIJW 2013. The voluminous mang-tikka and the rope necklace are the most interesting aspects of this ensemble.
Silver Anklets
Such thick silver payals or anklets can be worn with Indo-Western outfits like dhoti and harem pants.
Silver Gota
The model is sporting a large and rounded silver gota. This jewellery is part of a Rajasthani bride's attire.
Silver Kamarbandh
The waistband or kamarbandh has now become an obsolete piece of jewellery. But you can always try wearing a silver waistband with your Indo-Western outfits.
Gold n Emerald
This entire ensemble of jewellery was gold studded with emeralds. The neckpiece and earrings are basic. What we found interesting was the semi-circular golden comb adorning the bun.
Long Rounded Earrings
The main focus of this look is the heavy rounded hanging earrings. There is a large emerald in the golden discs of the earrings.
Kankan Bangles
This design of golden bangles is called the 'kankan' style. The edges of the bangles are raised and sometimes jagged.
Bajubandh
This is a very traditional arm band that has been re-created by Sumit Sawhney. The design is ethnic and can look every chic even on the modern bride.
Chunky Ring Bracelet
This is a very old jewellery design prevalent in India. But in the Apala collection at IIJW it has been given a modern look. Instead of chains, hops connect the ring with the bracelet.
Beaded Gold Jewellery
The coloured beads used in this jewellery gives a new look to the ensemble.
Maroon Beads n Rustic Gold
The combination of deep maroon beads and rustic gold gives an ancient touch to this look. The head jewellery is interesting and should be on your wish list if you are bride.
Layered Gold Necklace
Most contemporary brides do not like to wear too much jewellery on their wedding day. So if you want to wear just one necklace and yet look grand, choose a layered necklace like this one.
Embellished Pink String Choker
This is the only jewellery design in the entire collection that does not fit the definition of 'ornate'. The pink strings are very modern looking and the embellishments are in matte gold.
Stringy Back Jewellery
The golden strings of the necklace hanging on the back look more inspiring than the necklace itself.
Back Necklace
This is a standard long golden necklace that has been worn backwards. Not very impressive to be honest.
Chandrahar Or The Moon Necklace
Traditionally, a necklace that had a half-moon design was called a 'chandrahar'. This is a typical chandrahar with emerald studs.
The Lotus Lady
Mugdha Godse walked on the ramp in true apsara style holding two lotus flowers in both her hands. Her tube choli and tight-fitting lehenga were blood red in colour.
Golden Collar Necklace
Mugdha Godse wore an elaborate gold collar necklace that had tiny emerald embellishments. The locket of the necklace covered her bosom completely.
The Showstopper
As the showstopper of Apala at IIJW 2013, Mugdha took a final walk down the ramp with designer Sumit Sawhney.
