Fashion has always been evolving in nature, where the old styles and trends have always made a comback in the light of the current trend. Back in 1950s short kurti's with tight leggings, broad hair bands and decked up eyes was the dress code of every heroine. This remain a hit trend till the 70s after which the fashion industry saw a change but with time in the year 2011, the 1950s trend has made a comeback. This time the comeback in Indian fashion is that of leggings. From the trendy malls, street side markets and finally up on the Lifestyle India Fashion Week ramp, leggings have found a place in every strata of the society. Students, professionals and celebrities all are now flaunting the legging style. The leggings style introduced in the (WIFW 2011) is called the Classic Leggings or digital leggings.
Unlike the days of origin, the digital leggings are avilable in various different digital patterns, ethnic and futuristic style, flower motifs, crystals etc. The digital classic leggings were used in the fashion show to add the ' bling factor to the dresses,' said designer Puja Arya. With the introduction of the classic leggings, the trend is no longer restricted to the Indian wears alone. Designer Varun Bahl introduced a new range of shift dresses and tunics with classic leggings which went well with hot pants. The leggings for hot pants are translucent and worn over the pants, to add on to the sexy appeal. These leggings are plain and in netter material.
Kolkata based desinger Nil says, "Digital leggings are easy to mix and match and also, a bright digital print brightens up a dull outfit. One can update the wardrobe with dashing acquisitions that will not only boost confidence but also create a style of its own. However, one has to be careful that since it's a "statement piece," one should not go overboard with the accessorization and footwear and keep them toned down, in case you are going for a bright digital legging."
This Indian wear with a modern touch is also available in varius different patterns like in harem pants style, straight cut, button up style, loose fit to match the dress one wants to team it up with. The sequence work, ethic patterns etc, helps to match in up with different dressing styles and with the trend if mix and match setting in the Indian fashion, the classic leggings seem to be the apt option.
