Our skin is susceptible to a lot of problems. Some of them require professional help, but most skin issues can be treated at home with proper care.

Common skin issues

Let us take a look at some of the common skin issues that we all have faced from time to time and the best home remedies for some of them.

1. Tanning And Sunburn

1. Tanning And Sunburn

Tanning is one of the most common problems that people face. White skin tends to get burned more than tanned. Excessive tanning and sunburn are two different issues and need to be treated differently. They can occur simultaneously and with the depleted ozone layer, these often do.

While excessive tanning can be removed with exfoliation and the use of natural bleaching agents like lemon juice, papaya, and tomatoes, sunburn often requires a doctor's help. Minor sunburn can be treated at home with aloe vera, which is very useful in healing small cuts and burns.

2. Acne

Acne can occur because of many reasons. Hormones, stress, lifestyle, digestion, eating habits and sun exposure are the major culprits. Besides, preventive measures such as a healthy diet and a regular skin care routine, there are many home remedies that can help deal with this problem.

  • Dab some apple cider vinegar onto the affected area.
    • Crush some basil leaves and apply the paste on the acne. They will be reduced significantly overnight.
      • Fuller's earth helps in oil control and has antiseptic properties.
        • If you are in a hurry and have a fresh zit jutting out of your face, put some toothpaste on it. The zit will dry up quickly.
          • Aloe vera gel helps in drying up the pimples. It is capable of reducing even cystic acne, as it has antiseptic and anti-fungal properties.
3. Pigmentation

3. Pigmentation

Pigmentation is a common problem amongst the dark-skinned population. Indian skin tones fall in this group. Pigmentation is caused by excessive production of melanin. It occurs mostly due to excessive sun exposure. Localized pigmented spots make the skin look dull and are difficult to treat. Therefore, it is best to take preventive measures before going out in the sun.

Always wear sunscreen before stepping out. Apply sunscreen about 20 minutes prior to leaving. Sunscreen does not get absorbed into the skin, in fact, it forms a protective film over your skin, which is why you need to have time for the protective ingredients to get activated on the skin.

4. Clogged Pores

4. Clogged Pores

This another skin issue that everyone goes through. Those with oily or combination skin types are more prone to it because the oil attracts particles. Another reason is that those with oily skin have bigger pores. Clogged pores are also the cause of blackheads.

Regular exfoliation is the only remedy as well as a preventive measure to this problem. Exfoliate with a gentle scrub preferably once a week. Pay special attention to the T-zone while doing so because that is the oiliest part of the face. A face scrub made of oatmeal, gram flour, turmeric, honey, mustard oil, and milk makes a good exfoliator.

These are some of the common skin issues that we deal with on a day-to-day basis. They can be mostly dealt with simple home remedies but some require professional help. Our skin is a delicate organ. It requires regular care to look its best, which is what we all want. Don't we?
