Clear skin is a myth. And we are sure a million or so other girls out there would agree with us. Despite what glossy magazine covers boast, or those 2-minute ad films may desperately want us to believe, it is all a hoax, or is it?

What if we say there is one DIY face mask that can, in fact, do precisely that. We ain't making so-called claims, without facts in hand. We did our research.

The main ingredients inculcated in this herbal face pack for dark spots include aloe vera, papaya, turmeric, yogurt and almond oil. Now, let's take a closer look at what these ingredients can do.

Turmeric contains over 300 types of antioxidants, which can repair, heal and promote regeneration of new skin cells.

Papaya contains a crucial enzyme called papain that breaks down inactive proteins and helps eradicate dead skin cells. Added to that, it has a high ratio of vitamin A, which works to lighten dark spots and gives skin a radiant glow.

Aloe vera contains aloesin, which locks in the moisture, hydrating the skin. Yogurt contains lactic acid that works as a mild bleaching agent. And almond oil is a powerhouse of vitamin E, which slows down the skin's ageing process.

When you put all of these ingredients together in face pack, expect nothing less than a miracle for your skin. Here is what you need to do.

Step 1:

papaya

Take 1 piece of ripe papaya, peel off its skin and remove the seeds. Dice it into small pieces and grind them into a fine pulp.

Step 2:

turmeric

Add 1 teaspoon of freshly extracted aloe vera gel and a pinch of turmeric. Using a spoon, keep stirring the mixture, until it all blends into a smooth paste.

Step 3:

almond oil

Add 5 drops of almond oil. Depending on your skin type, you can add essential oils of your choice. But, limit it to any one essential oil, as too many oils can end up in making your skin greasy.

Step 4:

Cleanse your skin with a mild cleanser to remove all the dirt and grime residue. Take a fluffy towel and pat dry. Let your skin remain slightly moist. Tie your hair up in a loose bun. Put on a head band to keep fly-aways away from your face.

Step 5:

Using a brush or clean fingers, apply a thin coat of the Ayurvedic mask to treat fine lines across your face and neck.

Step 6:

rose water

Let it sit for about 20 to 30 minutes. To soothe your eyes, dip two cotton pads into rose water, wring out the excess and keep it on your eyes. Relax.

Step 7:

If the mask dries off before, and your skin becomes stretchy, rinse it off immediately. Spritz some water onto your face, scrub in a circular motion to exfoliate the skin, rinse it with lukewarm water.

Follow it up with cold water rinse to close pores. Pat dry. Apply a light moisturiser. Use these natural ingredients for clear skin, at least, once a week.
