As the time went by, and we took on the kitchen, we kept it clean. We, cook rice, throw the water and that's that.

However, it was not until recently that our research revealed what an elixir rice water can be for our skin.

One of those many times we regret not having paid close attention to what our genius mothers actually do in the kitchen.

Rice water contains allantoin, a powerful antibacterial compound known to soothe acne.

It also contains a chain of amino acids, which is known to cleanse pores of impurities, tighten the skin, improve complexion and boost the elasticity of the skin.

Other than that, rice water happens to be a powerhouse of vital vitamins and minerals, which tighten, brighten and soften the skin.

This mask works to shrink pores and brighten skin. Dip a cotton ball into freshly extracted rice water. Lather it liberally all over your skin. Wait for 15 minutes. Once you feel your skin tighten and the pack flake out, rinse it with cold water.

This rice water cleanser effectively removes the dirt buildup on skin, without being harsh. Mix freshly cooked rice water with a few drops of essential oil and ½ a cup of water. Lukewarm rinse your face with the solution. Follow it up with cold water rinse and then pat dry.

Rice water contains astringent properties that remove dirt deposits from the skin layer, reduce sebum production and soothe inflammation.

Heat it for 5 minutes. Allow it to cool in room temperature. Using a cotton ball, apply it on to your skin. Wait till it dries and then rinse.
