Causes Of Dry Skin In Summer
Summer is usually a time when you sweat a lot and your skin is always moist. Dry skin is usually associated with winter and cold windy weather. But some people notice dryness in their skin even in summer. The causes of dry skin in summer are very different from those in winter. Heat can dehydrate your skin from inside. This could be one of the causes of dry skin on face and all over the body.
You will notice that some people have chapped lips in summer. This too is a sign that your skin is dehydrated from inside. Many aspects aid dehydration of skin during the hot season. The causes of dry skin in summer are not restricted to the heat. Even some activities in summer like swimming or tanning can make your skin dry. If you want to address the causes of dry skin on face and body during summer, then you have to understand the reasons first.
Only when you know the causes, you can find remedies for dry skin in summer. Dry skin in summer is a much more complicated situation than dryness in winter. This is because it is not natural. Ideally, you should sweat it out in this season and your skin should be moist. But if your skin feels dehydrated even after applying lotion generously, then it could be due to one of the following reasons.
Swimming
The chlorine that is there in your swimming pool is the main culprit for causing dryness. If you have been taking lengthy dips in the swimming pool for beating the heat, then you might find your skin feeling uncomfortably tight.
Too Much Tanning
The bad effects of tanning are many and dryness is only the beginning. Over exposure to the sun causes dryness in the skin and can also be the leading causes of cancer.
Drinking Less Water
In summer, we feel thirsty all the time. But maybe you are not replenishing your body with as much fluids as you are losing out by sweating. You must drink 8 to 12 glasses of water in summer. The more you drink water, the better it is for your skin.
Air Conditioners
In summer, we prefer to stay indoors in our air conditioned homes or offices. But air conditioning soaks up all the skins' natural oils making it dry. That could be one of the main reasons for dry skin in summer.
Hot Showers
Some people are used to taking hot showers to refresh their senses. Even in the heat of summer, they cannot bathe with cold water. But taking bath with hot water can lead to dry skin.
Over Exfoliation
Exfoliation is required in summers as well. But scrubbing your skin too much can make it dry. Especially in the summers when the skin is exposed to heat, over exfoliation can be dangerous.
Smoking
Smoking causes dry lips but there is more to the problem. Smoking also increases body heat. This can further dry your skin.
Using Sanitisers
If you use too much of sanitisers, the skin on your hand can get very dry. Use less of soap and sanitisers in the summers.
Drinking Too Much Alcohol
Alcohol makes your body dry up from inside. So cut down on your intake of hot drinks in summer. Beer is still fine as it chills your senses. But drinks like whiskey, vodka, gin make you dehydrated.
Blocked Pores
Exposure to dust can sometimes block your pores. This does not allow you to sweat and thus, makes your skin very dry.
