Remove nail polish: This is the first step for a foot spa. Remove the nail polish from your toe nails. Use acetone free nail polish remover to keep on the shine of your nails. Acetone can dry your nails and also chap them.
Cut nails: After removing the nail polish, cut your nails. This is optional because many women love to keep long nails. But, as a hygiene exercise, you should chop off toe nails. Your foot gets exposed to dirt and mud every day. These can lead to skin infections. So, if you want to keep toe nails, make sure they are cut short and are comfortable too! A thing to remember is that long toe nails break off easily.
Soak feet: After you complete the first two steps, soak your feet in lukewarm water. Add a pinch of salt in the water to remove dirt and dead skin easily. Soak your feet in hot water solution for 8-10 minutes.
Scrub: Now, take a soft brush or a pumice stone to scrub your feet. This is one of the most important steps to get the perfect homemade foot spa. Scrub the ankle and every corner of the foot. Remove dirt from nails with a filer. Clean on the corners of the toe nails. Be gentle because wet nails can peel off easily.
Soak in baking soda (optional): After scrubbing your feet, soak them in lukewarm water. Add a pinch of baking soda. Leave your feet in water for 4-5 minutes. You can also scrub after soaking your feet in baking soda.
Apply lemon: Lemon can be applied to remove dead skin from your feet. It also removes tanning and cleanses out dirt easily. Take a slice of lemon and apply on your feet. To make the nails look white and shiny, rub lemon on the toe nails.
Wash: After you follow the above steps, wash your feet in fresh water. Do not use soap. Just wash your feet gently with fingers.
Moisturise: Salt, baking soda and lemon can dry your feet further. So, do not forget to moisturise your feet after taking the homemade foot spa. You can apply essential oil such as olive, almond oil or a body lotion. Let your skin soak the moisturiser.
