And we cannot think of an ingredient any better than poppy seeds, a.k.a khus khus. That's right, your good ol' poppy seed can do more than add a crunchiness to your food and aid digestion. It can also transform your mane.

Poppy seed is packed to the brim with unsaturated fatty acids. These acids penetrate deep into the pore, stimulate blood flow, boost collagen and elastin and help the hair strand absorb nutrient and oxygen better.

To top it off, it is also a rich source of minerals like iron, zinc, calcium and potassium. It promotes regeneration of new hair follicles and adds shine, softness and silkiness to the mane.

Other ingredients included in this poppy seed mask for hair loss are coconut milk and onion.

Onion contains a chock-full of sulphur, which reduces hair loss and accelerates its growth. Coconut milk, on the other hand, has lauric acid and amino acid. These acids help the hair retain its moisture better, sealing the cuticles and repairing damaged hair.

Now that you know precisely how this khus khus mask to improve hair growth works, let us get down to the recipe.

Step 1

Step 1

Take 2 tablespoons of poppy seeds. Rinse it in water until the dust drains out. Soak the seed in a cup of water overnight.

Step 2

Step 2

Take 1 fresh coconut, grate it, and extract its milk. Take the soaked poppy seed, and using the coconut milk, grind it into a smooth paste. Use milk enough to make a smooth paste. Depending on your hair length and thickness, tweak the content.

Step 3

Step 3

Peel, and grate onion and grind it into a fine pulp. Add 2 tablespoons of this pulp to the paste and using a fork, keep whisking until it incorporates into a smooth paste.

Step 4

Step 4

To mask the onion smell in the paste, you can also add a few drops of lemon juice or essential oil of your choice. We suggest rosemary or lavender oil.

Step 5

Step 5

Comb your hair to remove all the knots. To reduce breakage, hold your hair mid-length and then gently run the comb through. Until you have all the knots out.

Step 6

Step 6

Divide your hair in small sections and using a brush, apply the mask. Starting from the roots work your way down. Repeat this, until your entire scalp and hair are thoroughly doused in the mask.

Step 7

Step 7

Massage your scalp using your finger tips for 5 minutes for the mask to saturate well. Tie your hair in a loose bun, cover your head in a shower cap and let the mask sit for 1 hour.

Step 8

Step 8

Rinse it up with a mild shampoo, and follow it up with a suitable conditioner. For best results, try this mask once a week.
