Dandruff is generally caused by the skin condition called seborrhoeic dermatitis in which the scalp tends to turn extremely dry.

Under such conditions, a yeast-like fungus called Malassezia grows on the scalp which also results in eczema and psoriasis on the scalp.

Severe dandruff problems can lead to various types of scalp infections; and it may also affect the skin. However, to treat serious dandruff problems there are shampoos available in a drug store, which contain zinc pyrithione in it.

Zinc pyrithione is a chemical which targets to kill the virus, bacteria and yeast on the scalp, thus eradicating dandruff completely.

Zinc pyrithione-based soaps or shampoos can help to stop the growth of dandruff on the scalp and also loosen the flakes, which can be washed off easily.

So, here are different natural ways to get rid of severe dandruff problems. Take a look.

1. Aspirin

Aspirin is an ingredient which contains salicylic acid in it. Salicylic acid is an active ingredient which plays a vital role in getting rid of the dandruff flakes easily.

Take two to three aspirin tablets and crush them into a fine powder. Now, add this powder to the shampoo and wash your scalp.

Allow the shampoo on the scalp to remain for 1-2 minutes and then wash it off with cold water. Make sure you use the aspirin powder every time while washing the hair, as this will not allow dandruff to grow further.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a great ingredient which helps to cure dandruff completely. It helps to cure dandruff and it also maintains the pH value of the scalp. You should take one cup of apple cider vinegar and mix it with one cup of normal water.

Store the coronation in a spray bottle and spray it on your hair. Now, wrap your hair with a warm towel and leave it for some time. Wash it off with normal water after 10 minutes. Repeat doing this two times in a week to get rid of dandruff completely.

3. Mouthwash

Mouthwash is a boon to those who often struggle with bad breath. One important use of mouthwash is that it can be used to treat severe dandruff as well. Take a small amount of alcohol-based mouthwash and apply to your scalp.

Now follow up with regular conditioner to get soft and silky hair. Because the amount of alcohol present in the mouthwash is high, it helps to remove dandruff completely.


4. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil contains antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which help to remove dandruff completely. Take some tea tree oil and add it to your shampoo and later apply it on your scalp. Wait for sometime and wash it off. If you do not find tea tree oil in a drug store, you can use a shampoo and conditioner with tea tree oil extract in it.

5. Olive Oil

Apply some olive oil before washing your hair and do this 5-10 minutes before washing it. Then, wrap your hair with a warm towel and wait for some time. Allow the scalp to absorb the oil and wash off with lukewarm water.

6. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is the best oil when it comes to treating dandruff. Coconut oil helps to treat dandruff and it smells good as well. Take some coconut oil and heat it for some time. Now, massage your scalp 4-5 hours before washing your hair. Allow the oil to get absorbed completely, and then wash off with a mild shampoo followed by a conditioner.

7. Salt

Salt is a versatile ingredient that can help to remove the dry dandruff flakes from your scalp. Take a small amount of salt and dab it on your dry scalp. Then, work on your scalp using salt and give a scalp massage with it. After 15 minutes, wash off with lukewarm water followed by a mild shampoo.

8. Garlic

Garlic can help deal with severe dandruff due to its antimicrobial properties. Take some garlic and crush it properly. Now apply the mixture on the scalp and wait for some time. If needed, you can mix some honey and then apply it on your scalp to get rid of dandruff easily. Using a mixture of garlic and honey can also give you soft hair.

9. Lemon Juice And Curd

Take a bowl of curd and add some lemon juice to it. Then, whisk it properly and apply it on your scalp. Use the lemon peel to apply the paste on the scalp and rub it thoroughly. After you have applied curd on your scalp, massage your scalp for some time, until the scalp soaks the lemon juice. Wash off with a mild shampoo and repeat this process regularly to get rid of dandruff for good.

10. Cedarwood Oil

Take seven drops of cedarwood oil and mix it with ten drops of a carrier oil. Now rub this oil on your scalp and wash it with lukewarm water. Make sure you repeat the process twice or thrice in a week to get rid of dandruff completely.
