Hair fall in itself is an emotionally draining experience. Added to it, the steadily widening bald patch can break a person. It is quite easy to lose hope, especially when smothered with millions of products, claiming to reverse signs of hair loss, with no visible results!
We heard camphor hair mask can make a difference in treating hair loss. Rather than going by what we hear, we wanted to study the properties of this herbal camphor hair mask and understand how it works. And this is what we found out!
Extracted from the leaves of camphorwood, camphor contains a chemical component that can indeed make a difference in treating hair loss.
For instance, Safrole, a unique substance found in camphor, has anti-inflammatory properties that can maintain a healthy scalp condition.
Phellandrene activates the production of collagen fibres, which increase the elasticity and strength of the hair strands. Similarly, camphene compound has regenerative properties that promote growth.
Like this, there are over 40 compounds in camphor. We don't say it is magical and can overnight show results, but it can make a positive difference.
So, here is a step-by-step method on how to use camphor on hair.
Take a grinding stone and mash two camphor pills into fine powder. Never use camphor directly onto the scalp, as it is too concentrated. Always mix it with a base oil or other herbal ingredients to balance it.
Over a mild flame, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil with an equal amount of coconut oil. Let the oil heat for a minute or less and then turn off the flame. Allow the oil to cool down at room temperature.
Take 1 egg white in a bowl, and whip it into a fluffy consistency. Add in the oils, camphor and a teaspoon of lemon juice. To mask the smell, you can also add a few drops of grapeseed oil.
Using a fork, mix well until all the ingredients incorporate. Comb your hair to remove all the knots and reduce breakage.
Divide your hair in small sections and apply the mask using a brush. Apply it liberally through your hair length and scalp.
Massage your scalp for 5 minutes using the soft bud of your fingers. Tie your hair in a loose bun and cover it up with a shower cap. Let the mask sit for an hour.
Cleanse your hair thoroughly, using your regular shampoo and follow it up with a suitable conditioner.
Caution - Before applying this mask, patch test it to eliminate any possibility of side effects.
