Nail discolouration happens generally when your nails appear yellow, white or green due to nail infection or hormonal problems in the body. There are several home remedies that you could use to treat the discolouration of nails.

Around 50 per cent of the people suffer from discolouration of nails due to fungus or algae infections on the nails. No matter what the reason behind this nail discolouration is, it may be really embarrassing, especially if you have yellow nails.

Well, for those who suffer from discolouration of nails, here are some easy home remedies that you could follow to naturally treat the condition.

Lemon

Due to antibacterial and antifungal properties found in lemon, it can help to clean the yellow or white stains on the nails. Due to astringent properties found in lemon, it can help to clear the nails and prevent the discolouration.

Take a bowl filled with lukewarm water. Add a few spoons of lemon juice to it and soak your nails in this. Continue for 10-15 minutes and moisturise your nails with the help of an oil.

Orange Essential Oil

Another important tip that can help to treat discolouration of nails is using orange essential oil. Due to antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties found in orange essential oil, it can help to kill the fungus that is responsible for nail discolouration. Take some orange essential oil and heat it for some time. Massage your nails with this oil and wash off with lukewarm water.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen Peroxide

Due to whitening properties found in hydrogen peroxide, it can help to treat nail discolouration. It works well on the yellow nails and also helps to kill the bacteria responsible for nail discolouration.

Take half a cup of water and add two spoons of hydrogen peroxide and mix well. Now soak your nails in this solution for 10-15 minutes and clean the nails with a soft brush. Wait for some time and wash off with clean water. One important thing you should remember is hydrogen peroxide may dehydrate your nails and hence you must moisturise them properly.

Tea Tree Oil

Due to antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties found in tea tree oil, it can help to prevent bacteria on the nail. It's not only the bacteria that affect your nail, some times it may also be the nail paint.

To solve this problem, take a drop of tea tree oil and massage your nails with this. Leave it overnight and wash off with water. Also, you could do this twice or thrice in a day to get rid of the fungus and discolouration of nails.

Glycerine not only helps to keep your nails hydrated but also helps to moisturise your nails, making them appear shiny. Due to natural bleaching properties found in lemon, it helps to bleach your nails, thus preventing yellow stains.

Mix some lemon juice with glycerine. Apply it on the nails and massage for 10-15 minutes. Wait for some time and wash off with lukewarm water.

Whitening Toothpaste

Toothpaste not only helps to whiten your teeth but it proves to be effective in treating yellow or green nails. Scrubbing your nails with a whitening toothpaste can help to get rid of the stains on the nails. Toothpaste contains a whitening ingredient, including hydrogen peroxide, that helps to treat discolouration of nails.

Apply a small coat of toothpaste on your nails and leave it for 10-15 minutes. Using a brush, scrub your nails well to get rid of the issue. Do this for a week to treat yellow or discoloured nails.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar contains a high amount of malic acid that helps to reduce yellow stains on the nails. Due to antibacterial and antifungal properties present in apple cider vinegar, it can help to treat discoloured nails.

Take half a cup of apple cider vinegar and mix it with lukewarm water. Now, soak your nails in this solution for 20-30 minutes and then wash it off with water.

Lemon is a great bleaching agent that helps to treat nail discolouration easily. Baking soda proves to be an excellent remedy to treat yellow nails and thereby helps to exfoliate your nails naturally.

Take two spoons of baking soda and add one spoon of lemon juice to it. Mix both the ingredients well and apply this on your discoloured nails. Using this method every day for a month can help to treat the condition naturally.
