Home Remedies To Remove Burn Marks On Skin

Indian women, working or a housewife, spend roughly around 6 to 12 hours in a day in the kitchen. And as careful as we are, there are still times when oil from sputtering mustard seeds or scalding hot cooker leaves us with tell-tale burnt marks. This is when home remedies for skin burns can really come to our rescue.

However, before we go anywhere near burn marks, there are things you need to do immediately after the burn to prevent scarring, throbbing, redness and blisters.

Wash the burnt area immediately with cold water. Dip a clean cloth in cold water, squeeze out the excess and wrap the skin with the cloth for several hours.

You can also use cold press on the damaged skin tissues. Avoid using ice on the burnt skin, as ice can prevent blood flow, which in turn can cause a clot formation.

Keep a healing emollient or salve at handy to apply on to the skin.

Tomato Juice
Tomato has natural bleaching properties, which remove dead skin cells, revealing clear layer underneath. Dab a few drops of tomato juice directly on the burnt mark. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then wash. Use this herbal mask to clear skin burn marks, twice a day.


Almond Oil
High on vitamin E and antioxidants, almond oil can heal, nourish and promote regeneration of new skin cells. Massage the affected area with a few drops of almond oil, every night, before going to bed.


Yogurt + Turmeric
Lactic acid in yogurt and antioxidants in turmeric can heal minor burns, soothe inflammation and reduce scarring.

Mix a tablespoon of yogurt with a pinch of turmeric. Apply it on to the affected area. Let it sit for 30 minutes and then rinse with cold water. Repeat this DIY mask to treat burn marks, twice a day.

Black Tea Bag
Concentrated with tannins, black tea bag tightens skin, exfoliates damaged skin cells and removes scars. Place a black tea bag in the refrigerator and place it on the burnt skin. Let it remain until the skin starts getting warm. Repeat two or three times in a day.

It contains antibacterial, antifungal and antiseptic properties, which not just heal broken skin tissues, but also promote regeneration of new skin cells.

Potato has both antifungal and bleaching properties that can lighten and reduce even the most glaring burn marks.

Cut a few slices of potato, and rub it on the now-healed burnt skin. Rub it in a clockwise and anti-clockwise manner. Repeat this home remedy for burnt skin twice a day.


Proteins, fatty acids and calcium present in milk can bind and seal broken skin tissues, reducing scarring.

Immerse a cotton ball in chilled raw milk. Dab it on the affected area. Leave it on for 5 minutes and wash. Repeat this thrice a day.

Aloesin in aloe vera exfoliates the skin of dead cells, tightens skin and reduces blemishes. Extract gel from an aloe vera leaf. Apply it directly on the damaged skin tissue. Let it sit till dry and then rinse. Repeat this natural way to remove burn marks, three times a day, till you see results.


Onion contains quercetin and sulphur, which can reduce stubborn of marks. Grind an onion and extract its juice. Using a cotton ball, dab the juice on to the damaged skin. Let it sit for five minutes and then rinse. Do it twice a day.

Lavender oil contains antiseptic properties that promote rapid healing of the skin. Apply a few drops of lavender oil immediately after a skin burn, as it will not just heal skin faster, but also prevent scarring.


A natural humectant with antibacterial properties, honey heals and promotes regeneration of new skin cells. Massage the burnt skin with a few drops of organic honey. Let it rest for 15 minutes and then rinse it with cold water. This is one of the ancient Indian remedies on how to remove burn marks naturally.

Baking Soda
Sodium bicarbonate exfoliates the skin of dead skin cells, by killing the infection-causing bacteria, revealing clear skin underneath.

Mix a teaspoon of baking soda with enough water to create a chalky paste. Apply it to the burnt skin. Once it is dry, rinse it with cold water. Repeat this home remedy for burnt skin once in a day.
