Citrusy, tangy with truckload of vitamin C, find out if lemon works in clearing body acne!

By Kumutha

As soon as those nasty, pus-filled acne bumps sprout, seemingly out of nowhere, we hunt for remedies. And one ingredient that invariantly comes to our mind is lemon.

We've heard way too many times that lemon helps treat acne, but what really piqued our interests is, does it come without any side effects? You know, the skin discolouration, peeling skin, and so on. We got down to research and this is what we found out.

Lemon juice contains a good amount of citric acid, which acts as an astringent, killing the infection-causing bacteria, cleansing dirt from the pores and reducing oil production on skin.

Herbal lemon mask also contains astringent properties that contract the skin, push the oil to the surface, thereby clearing acne.

Added to it, it contains ascorbic acid and phytoncides that prevent the bacteria from regrouping again and vitamin C that clears out any scar.

Now, coming down to the cons. As they say, no good thing come without their fair share of flaws. If you have dry skin, using lemon can cause your skin to flake.

For pigmented skin, strong astringent lemon can leave black marks. Furthermore, direct application can cause the skin to sting.

To counteract its adverse effect, combine it with other herbal ingredients. So, how to clear body acne naturally? Read on further for this step-by-step method.

Step 1:

wash face

Cleanse the skin riddled with acne with a mild soap or body wash. Rinse it clean with lukewarm water. Pat dry with a soft towel. Avoid rubbing the towel aggressively.

Step 2:

cut lemon

Rub a lemon between your palms for a minute. Cut it in half. Squeeze out the juice in a bowl.

Step 3:

honey

If you have dry skin, add a teaspoon of fresh milk and half a teaspoon of honey. Using a fork, mix it well.

Step 4:

mask

Dip a cotton ball into the solution. Wring out the excess and gently dab it on the affected area. A slight stinging sensation is normal. However, if the sting is severe, rinse the area clean with plain water.

Step 5:

pat dry

Let the solution absorb into the skin for about 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse the area with cold water and pat dry. Apply the solution, twice a day, for faster relief from acne.

Step 6:

rose water

For added toning, follow it up by taking a few drops of rose water in a cotton ball and dab it all over the affected area. Let it naturally get absorbed into the skin. Rose water has antibacterial properties that soothe, heal and tone the skin.

Note: Though the above-mentioned remedy is effective in treating body acne, it works well for minor case of acne. For severe acne, it is best to consult with a dermatologist.
